=>Russ's Update
  =============
Hello everybody!
It's nice to see such a huge response to the page and a continuing interest in
Triumvirat. I am in the process of contacting former band members and
encouraging a Triumvirat reunion, using your letters as "ammunition" to show the
band and EMI/Electrola that there is indeed a market for a new album. Of
course, with Helmut gone, it will never be the same as it was on "Spartacus" or
"Illusions On A Double Dimple"..but Barry Palmer made two and a half ("Ala Carte
had two vocalists) outstanding albums with Triumvirat, and it would be great if
we could pluck him from obscurity to record again. As far as I know, this is
what everyone is doing:
Jürgen Fritz is a big time record producer in Germany. Jürgen was very gracious
when I spoke with him on the phone, saying it was "amazing" about the continued
interest in Triumvirat. I think if he heard from
everyone, they would surely do another album. Hans Bathelt is out of the music
business, working for a software development company. He has been very helpful,
and I am expecting a long letter from him any day now, answering many questions
about the group's history, and the possibility for a reunion. Barry Palmer
recorded one album with Mike Oldfield "Discovery" in 1984, but his whereabouts
are unknown. Arno Steffen (the vocalist on "Russian Roulette") is the leader of
"LSE", arguably the most successful German act of the 80's and 90's. Matthias
Holtmann (drummer on "Ala Carte" and Helmut's "You Won't See Me") is the host of
"ExtraSpael" ("Extra Late") akin to a German MTV. He also does the afternoon
drive time on SDr Radio in Stuttgart, Germany.

That's it for now. Help us show support to these guys for a reunion!!

=>Postcard From Hans Bathelt
  ==========================
Hi all!
I received a nice postcard from Hans Bathelt in the mail (with a cartoon
drawing of the City of Cologne on the back)..it reads exactly as follows:
"Dear Russ:
Thanks for your letter I received last week. It's amazing to find so
much interest in Triumvirat after 20 years.
I will be glad to correct the material and give you more info about the
group. There is no problem from my side with whatever you want to put in the
Internet. As I won't be home for the next 2-3 weeks, I will answer your
letter when I'm back. All the best from Cologne!
Yours,
Hans"

From:	Kim Seong Woo, INTERNET:swkim@cclab.kaist.ac.kr
Hello,
I'm a prog. fan in Korea.
Of course, I like Triumvirat, especially 'Illusions On A Double Dimple'.
On this week, A La Carte(CD from Si-Wan label) has been released here.
Check out 'http://cclab.kaist.ac.kr/~swkim/siwan.html'.
I expect it will be out in other countries soon.
Cheers,
Best regards,
Seong-Woo Kim

releases. Please see TATW Issue #6 for details.]

From:	Dirk Evans, INTERNET:dirk@triumvirat.net
Hi Russ,
Great Triumvirat homepage.
I have been saying for 20 years, with no reservations, that "Spartacus"
is THE greatest album ever made. I have a great many albums
(approximately 3000), but I have never gone more than a month without
listening to a Triumvirat record since 1975.
I'll never forget the time that I first heard "Illusions on a Double
Dimple". In 1976, I was listening to the "Seventh Day" show on K-SHE,
as I did every week, and recorded it onto a white 8-track tape. Long
before I ever saw the album cover I had a strong association of the album
with the color white. I also remember that Gary Colander was the DJ.
He always played great albums and gave the audience about 10 seconds of
silence before and after each album side to make it easier for recording.
I am surprised that people are having problems finding "Spartacus" on
CD. I have seen it in CD-stores quite frequently. It has been released in
US. I do not think that any of their other albums have been released in
the US. I have picked up "Mediterranean Tales", "Illusions on a Double
Dimple", "Old Loves Die Hard", and "Pompeii" at Now Here This in Crestwood
on import from the U.K.
I think that I might have seen it on a couple of web based CD-stores. I'll
let you know.
talk to you later,
Dirk Evans

=>Thanks for Info/Correction
  ==========================
I found your Triumvirat information very interesting. I had always wondered
what had happened to Helmut Köllen; I was saddened to learn of his death.
I wanted to make a minor correction regarding Barry Palmer's work with Mike
Oldfield. He did indeed appear on Oldfield's 1984 album, but it was the one
called 'Discovery'; he and Maggie Reilly alternate vocals. 'Islands'
appeared in 1987 and did not feature Palmer. Also, the 4-CD Oldfield
collection 'Elements' features a song on disc 4 called "Crime Of Passion"
with an uncredited vocal performance; it is unmistakably Barry Palmer.

on a lark, I searched "Triumvirat" and was surprised to find that a web
site does exist. I spent much of one summer in what must have been 1975
listening over and over to Spartacus. I wonder what it would sound like
now...? Thanks for the interesting updates on the where and what of the
band.

I'm a 32 years old Argentinean who has been living in USA for the past 5
years in USA. I don't lie if I tell you that I've cried when I found
your homepage. I've grew with Triumvirat music, and for the last 10
years I've been unsuccessfully trying to find information about them. On
January 96 I've traveled to Munich and I was not able to find anything.
So, what was my surprise to see that there is a bunch of people who is
as crazy as me about Triumvirat !. The only thing I want to say is that
I believe that "A la carte" is one of the finest progressive rock albums
ever made, and "Waterfall" one of my 5 favourite songs of all time. When
is the CD going to be released ?. My e-mail is m.mazal@worldnet.att.net
Keep the good work !!!

From: Philippe Fontan pfontan@camitel.com
Well, I can now finally say that this whole WWW thing had a purpose:
letting me know Triumvirat still exists ... virtually.
A few comments on your otherwise excellent site:
Could you include each album's serial number and record company. That's
going to make it easier for us to try and order it through a record store.
I've got to get me that Mediterranean Tales... album.
Also, I believe that the original release of Spartacus in Canada featured
all the lyrics. Am I wrong? Since you're already in contact with Bathelt,
maybe he could give permission to reprint all the lyrics to his songs.
Any newspaper reviews would be great. The one reprinted from The Gazette,
August 75 had me listening to Spartacus with new found interest. (I'd be
especially interested to know how Illusions... was perceived and received
when it came out.)
Could anybody tell us what's with the mice on the album covers???
I'd welcome any suggestion about other "obscure" progressive bands. Here's
one for you: Klaatu (but only for their album "Hope", not any other). Kinda
like Pink Floyd meets ELO at Alan Parsons' (old) place. No maestros there,
but great melodic lines and fantastic arrangements.
And by the way, Illusions on a double dimple is THE definitive Triumvirat
album. Sorry about that, Spartacus fans... :)
That's it.
May the mice be with you.

Thanks for the mail! It's always great to hear from T'rat fans, all are so
intelligent.

<<Also, I believe that the original release of Spartacus in Canada featured 2 2
all the lyrics. Am I wrong?>>
I've never seen it, but hope you are correct.
<< Since you're already in contact with Bathelt, maybe he could give permission
to reprint all the lyrics to his songs.>>
He granted me that permission on 10-01-96, but haven't gotten them up yet. I
basically will have to transcribe them, or he may indeed send them to me. This
will surely be a subject discussed between us. Stay tuned!!
<<Any newspaper reviews would be great. The one reprinted from The Gazette,
August 75 had me listening to Spartacus with new found interest. (I'd be

I am depending on the readers' generosity for now. depending on how this
develops, we could very likely see some stuff from Hans or one of the others.
<<Could anybody tell us what's with the mice on the album covers???>>

Glad to find someone out there who has really LISTENED to "Illusions"! I have
been saying that for years!

Gotta add me to that list. Illusions does it for me as well. (is that
the sound of an Illusions vs. Spartacus debate developing in the distance?)
